ST JOHN'S Antigua (CMC): Last year's double crown champions Jamaica will travel to the north of Dominica to face Guyana at Benjamin Park in the opening round of the Regional Women's Super50 Tournament. The West Indies Cricket Board announced yesterday that this year's tournament opens this coming Thursday in the Nature Isle. Eight teams, including the Jamaicans, will take part in the tournament, which will be contested in two groups in the preliminary phase before advancing to the playoff stages. Apart from Benjamin Park, located in the northern community of Portsmouth, the WICB said in a media release that matches will also be contested at Windsor Park, the international venue for the game in the island, as well as the historic Botanical Gardens next door and Grandbay Playing Field in the south of the island. Under the new format, each team will have to play for their final position in the tournament, following a round of playoffs. Finals Day is set for Wednesday, August 13. |
