Six months' imprisonment was the sentence handed down to a man in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court who was accused of robbing a woman of her cell phone.

Shevon Letts was charged with robbery with violence. He pleaded guilty with explanation.

The Crown alleges that while robbing the complainant of her cell phone, Letts choked her, grabbing the device from her grasp. Persons pursued him before beating him.

In court, Letts told the prosecutor, "nuh phone choking never gwaan mi general," which appeared to irritate Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece.

She enquired of him about his actions and was told "a nuh really my style, you see what I'm dealing with?"

However, the magistrate responded, "No, I don't really see it; I don't see it all. People in Jamaica should be able to go about their business without them being robbed". With that, the magistrate pronounced sentence.
