Jamaica under-15 lose to Windwards at Kenny

Jamaica suffered their first loss of the West Indies Under-15 Championship yesterday after going down to a close three-wicket loss to the Windward Islands at Kensington Park.

Spearheaded by an unbeaten 90 from Campion College's Dominik Samuels, Jamaica posted a challenging 255 for seven off their 50 overs.

The Windwards, in their run-chase, then ticked their way to 256 for seven off 49.3 overs.

It was Jamaica's first defeat in two matches, while for the Windwards it represented a bounce back after their first round loss to Trinidad and Tobago.

"We bowled a little bit indiscipline today, but guess what, we can't take anything from the Windwards," said Jamaica coach Oral Simpson.

"They played well, and I want to say congratulations to them for their victory."

Jamaica, after winning the toss, had vice-captain Samuels and captain Raewin Senior to thank for their total.

second successive century

Excelsior High's Senior, in scoring his second consecutive half-century, made 64, and along with Samuels put on 115 for the fourth wicket, their second successive century stand.

Samuels, who made 54 in the opening match, slammed five sixes and three fours during his vigil, while Senior put away eight fours.

Opener Dorrell Thomas, 29, and Kirk McKenzie, 25, also chipped in against pacer Daniel Dupigny, two for 47, and left-arm wrist spinner Simeon Gerson, two for 48.

The Windwards did not lose wickets at regular intervals and opener Dave Edwards, who made 75, composed innings.

Edwards was supported by Johan Jeremiah, 47, Johnnel Eugene, 42, and Tahj Tavarnier 41.

In other matches, reigning champions Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana made it two from two.

Melbourne Oval

At Elletson Road, Trinidad recorded a 209-run win. They made a massive 321 for six with Crystian Thurton making 152, the tournament's first century.

They then returned to restrict the Leewards to 112 off 30.2 overs.

Guyana, in the meanwhile scored a 46-run win over Barbados at Melbourne Oval. Guyana made 227 for seven to which Barbados replied with 181 for eight.

The tournament will continue today with Jamaica against the Leewards at Kensington, Trinidad versus Guyana at University of The West Indies, and Barbados against Windwards at Elletson Road.
