STUNNED by SIR VON's unannounced return to form at 1000 metres two Saturdays ago, PISCEAN ROCKET should make amends in tomorrow's overnight allowance at the distance. Apparently believing he had the field covered, jockey Dane Nelson produced PISCEAN ROCKET in the last furlong and a half, too late though, as SIR VON motored between RUN JOHNNY RUN and WILLIE GOLDSMITH to shock the field at 11-1. SIR VON had last won in February 2013. He ran seven races after and went on a six-month lay-up last November. He emerged in May and twice finished behind PISCEAN ROCKET in races won by LADYLIKE and PRINCESS POPSTAR. It was, indeed, shocking when the seven-year-old United States-bred horse sprinted clear of PISCEAN ROCKET on last. However, to PISCERAN ROCKET's credit, it should be noted that SIR VON has always been a speedy and versatile horse who kept much better company last season. The race was run in a brisk 58.1, suggesting SIR VON is back and PISCEAN ROCKET must be given every chance to frank the form from a good draw tomorrow. The Richard Azan-trained runner will break from post-position 11 in the 14-horse field. His main danger, SIR VON's stablemate, FORTUNEONEHUNDRED, is drawn at stall four and will have to use his speed early to jostle for position. PISCEAN ROCKET will have no problems from his wide draw. Nelson will have a good view of rivals and should be able to better time his run against speed horses such as RUNJOHNNY RUN on his inside. Azan and Nelson should close a double with PISCERAN ROCKET as FRANFIELD should get the better of Philip Feanny's BARS OF GOLD at 1400 metres in the third race. BARS OF GOLD's last run was nothing to shout about, second behind STREET DANCER in an 1100-metre race won in 1:08.1. FRANFIELD's second to FANTABULOUS and seventh place in the Governor's Cup, beating BARS OF GOLD, make for better reading. The day's feature, also a 1000-metre straight race, should be won by SMOKIN MAN, down in class on a $350,000 claim tag after placing third behind SUNLIGHT EXPRESS and FRANKENSTORM - who are both lined up against PISCEAN ROCKET in the overnight allowance. Though he has declined somewhat, SMOKIN MAN ran creditably at the distance on a $550,000 tag, July 9, beaten one and three quarter lengths by FRANKENSTORM, who was five behind SUNLIGHT EXPRESS.
