GLASGOW, Scotland:

As expected, it was hardly a contest, but despite crushing St Lucia by 64 goals, Jamaica's Sunshine Girls are more than aware that they will need to tighten a few screws if they are to have success against the bigger teams at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Jamaicans over-powered the minnows 88-24 on the back of a dominant shooting display and busy-bodied pressing in the middle third to send an early warning shot in their quest for what would be only their second medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The Sunshine Girls will again be in action tonight, when they come up against Northern Ireland at 7 p.m. (1p.m. Jamaica time), looking to correct some of the errors made last night and again impress their will upon their opponents.

In spite of their massive win, the Jamaicans still suffered 18 match play errors, the likely concern, mentioned by head coach Minneth Reynolds.

"It was a decent game to start out with, we had some moments here and there but overall I think the girls played very well. Defensively I think the girls need to tighten up a bit because we were a bit loose at times and we cant afford to make those mistakes when we are playing against stronger opposition," Reynolds said.

Jhaniele Fowler-Reid, one of five third quarter substitutes, shot 32 goals from 35 attempts, with Romelda Aiken scoring 23 from 28 as the Jamaicans shot an impressive 88 percent.

Reynolds would have been pleased with the work of Commonwealth Games debutants Thristina Harwood, whose smooth shooting helped her to a 94 percent shooting accuracy return with 17 goals from 18 attempts and Shanice Beckford, with 16 from 18, created the perfect support for the established Fowler- Reid/Aiken tandem.

"I think all 12 players delivered. They were asked to play specific roles and they did well in executing that for the most part. It's a good blend of experience and youth and they all worked well together," Reynolds said.

In other results Dahlia Palmer finished 12th overall in the women's 500m time trial at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. Chris Binnie took out Lesotho's Ntholeng Lechesa 3-0 (11-0, 11-0, 11-1) in his round of 64 contest before falling to England's Nick Matthew 0-3 (11-4, 11-8, 11-4) in the next round. Bruce Burrowes fell 0-3 to Scotland's Greg Lobban.

Jamaica are at the bottom of Pool B in men's table tennis team match play after losing 3-0 to England before beating Trinidad and Tobago 2- 0, while the women's team started off with a 3- 0 loss to Canada before beating Papau New Guinea 3-0.
