Sweet season for Ramgeet |

Three-time Jamaican champion jockey Andrew 'Narry' Ramgeet has ridden 53 winners and enjoying one of his best ever seasons at Mountaineer Park, West Virginia. Ramgeet is sitting second on 13 winners in Mountaineer's stakes season, which started July 1. He has, so far, had 11 second place finishes and 13 thirds as his mounts have earned US$159,765. The Jamaican is only bettered by Christian P Pilares, who is on 15 winners. Ramgeet won the last race of the day at Mountaineer on Wednesday, booting home CERTIFIED DIAMOND at 1200 metres on dirt, winning in 1:12.4 for a US$9,000 purse. The previous day, he won the third aboard WINNING WORTH, a three-year-old and upwards claiming race at four and a half furlongs, for a US$14,300 purse. Monday was a bumper day for Ramgeet as he won a three-timer - KISSIN IN THE DARK in the first, PRAISEWORTHY in the third and OUTBACKER in the seventh for purse money of US$14,300, US$22,000 and US$25,300, respectively. March 1 to 31, Ramgeet had nine winners. He logged 32 winners from April 1 to June 30, putting his 2014 tally to 53 wins at Mountaineer. A favourite at Jamaica's Caymanas Park, Ramgeet has ridden 1,150 winners in North America since leaving Jamaica in 1999. He won three consecutive Red Stripe Superstakes aboard Richard Azan's four-time winner, MENUDO, scoring aboard the chestnut 2000-2002. |
