OMAR WALKER is looking to make up ground on the leaders at Assiniboia Downs this weekend, having ridden just two winners in four racedays, since returning to the Winnpeg track after partnering TALENTED TONY K in the July 5 Jamaica St Leger at Caymanas Park.

Sitting on 22 wins, the Jamaican has eight rides split over this Friday and Saturday, hoping to get close to third-place Chris Husbands on 30 winners.

Husbands and defending two-time champion Paul Nolan have been on fire recently.

Nolan won four races last the weekend and added two on Wednesday to grab the lead from Adolfo Morales, 36-34. Husbands shone with one winner last Friday and landed a double on Saturday, racing into contention for championship honours with 30 wins.

Walker left ASD fourth in the jockeys' standings, 20 winners, challenging Barbadian Husbands, 22, for third place behind Adolfo Morales, 32, and defending champion Paul Nolan 28.

On his first day back in the saddle at ASD, Wednesday, July 9, the Jamaican won the sixth race with BEST LAID PLANS, a CAD$8.500, six-furlong optional claiming for an CAD$$11,000 purse.

However, Husbands had taken a double in his absence, moving to 24 winners, and greeted the Jamaican with a three-timer on his return, jumping to 27, while Walker edged to 21.

Last weekend, Walker could only manage one win, landing Saturday's second race, a waiver claiming with a CAD$6,500 purse, aboard AFLEET COWBOY. Walker's winner clocked 1:06.0 for five and a half furlongs, beating Husbands on STORMIN PETER and Morales aboard JUSTCALLMETATER.
