Kingston aims to join Melbourne in quarter-finals

Kingston CC will this weekend attempt to cement the second automatic quarter-final spot from Zone D of the Jamaica Cricket Association Senior Cup when they host early qualifiers and defending champions Melbourne at Sabina Park.

The Terrence Corke-conditioned Kingston are presently second in the zone with 60 points, seven less than Melbourne, despite both teams having won their four matches to date.

Melbourne leads

Melbourne leads by virtue of having more bonus points, which are awarded for instances such as a player making a century or taking five wickets in a match.

The only team that can surpass Kingston is Kensington, who with one win, one draw and two losses recorded, are in third on 34 points.

For Kensington to advance they will not only have to beat St Thomas at Goodyear Oval, but also accumulate several bonus points.

zone match-up

The zone's other match-up will see out-of-contention Lucas hosting Boys Town at Nelson Oval.

Elsewhere, Zone's A, B and C are still close with the winners and runners-up likely to be decided this weekend.

In Zone A, leaders St Elizabeth, 50 points, will take on second place Westmoreland (43) at Little London, while third place St James (27) will take on out-of-contention Hanover (7) at the Trelawny Stadium.
