Cotterell aiming to take down Tallawahs

Sheldon Cotterell

Left-arm fast bowler Sheldon Cotterell says he is ready to take on his Jamaican compatriots when his team, the Antigua Hawksbills face the Jamaica Tallawahs in round two of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua today.

Cottrell, who represents Jamaica in regional four-day and one-day tournaments, has been the Hawksbills top fast bowler since last season, and come today's match, he says he plans to do nothing different.

"All the Tallawahs players and I are friends, but once I am playing for Hawksbills, we are rivals on the field," said Cottrell.

"I know their (Tallawahs) tail must be up right now, after beating the (St Lucia) Zouks in their opener.

"But, we have the arsenal in our unit to beat any team, I am really looking forward to a good game."

finish last

The Hawksbills, who lost their opening game by two wickets to Guyana Amazon Warriors in Grenada, made a number of changes to their squad this season in a bid to better their second-from-bottom finish last year.

These changes, most of which were made during the annual player draft, have since resulted in two other Jamaicans joining the Hawksbills, who are captained by Marlon Samuels.

The players are former Tallawahs batsman Danza Hyatt, and young batsman Shacoya Thomas.

Cottrell believes the changes could aid in their victory pursuit.

"It will be more intense, as we also have four Jamaicans in our team," he said.

The Hawksbills, mentored by Richards, also have in their line-up Australians, batsmen David Hussey and Ben Dunk, and fast bowler Ben Laughlin.

Title-holders the Tallawahs, in the meanwhile, have Chris Gayle, Daniel Vettori, Australian batsman Adam Voges, and Andre Russell in their line-up.

The game, scheduled to get under way at 2:30 p.m. will be one of two on the day with Guyana Amazon Warriors hosting the Red Steel at Providence Stadium at 5:30 p.m.
