Australia batsman Adam Voges says he is champing at the bit to represent the Jamaica Tallawahs, who will on Saturday begin the defence of their Caribbean Premier League title against St Lucia Zouks at the Grenada National Stadium. Voges, who has been an integral part of Australia's one-day and Twenty20 international units, is one of two changes to the Tallawahs batting line-up, and according to him, he hopes to bring stability. "I intend to bring a lot of experience having played in a lot of Twenty20 leagues around the world," said 34-year-old Voges. "The form of Twenty20 is often times viewed as an all-out attack batting-wise, but sometimes you need someone in the middle overs with a cool head." role "That's me generally, and it's a role I have played a lot during my career." Voges, who was selected by the Tallawahs earlier this year in the player draft, is set to play an anchor role in the middle order. This is especially so given that Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara, who played a similar role towards the latter part of last season, is unavailable this year. All-rounders André Russell and David Bernard Jr, recent West Indies Test debutant Jermaine Blackwood, and wicketkeepers Carlton Baugh Jr and Chadwick Walton, are also expected to lend steel to the middle. "I've never been to the Caribbean before, and it feels good to be a part of the team that won last year," said Voges. "It's also a good opportunity to catch up with guys like Chris Gayle, who I played with in Perth." - J.L. |
