After claiming her eighth national title at the Supreme Ventures National Championships last weekend, Novlene Williams-Mills is now focusing on winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer.

Williams-Mills, a cancer survivor who turned 32 in April, clocked a season best 50.05 seconds to hold off Christine Day 50.16 and Stephanie McPherson 50.50s. Her only goal now, she said, was to have a repeat performance in Glasgow this summer.

"It's more like to go out there have a great race, and possibly come home with the gold medal," she said.

Winning the national championships for an eighth time was extremely satisfying for the three-time Olympian, but she is also winning the battle against breast cancer and a double mastectomy she endured two seasons ago. "With everything that has been going on, I have started to feel like myself, so it's great," she said.

The 2013 World Championship finalist had told the story of her battle with cancer to the Daily Mail in the United Kingdom and the support, she said, has served to motivate her. "When you have so many people texting you or just seeing you and saying, 'your story has helped me so much', it's a great feeling," she said. "The biggest thing is I don't take life for granted because one minute I went in for a personal check-up and the other minute it was something different, so for me, every day that I have is a blessing."

She next competes in Paris this weekend and plans to compete at other meets until she heads to the Commonwealth Games set to begin on July 23.
