Limited changes will help Warriors

Denesh Ramdin, Guyana Amazon Warriors' new captain, believes that having not made a lot of changes to their squad puts the team in a better position to win the Caribbean Premier League this year.

The Amazon Warriors, under the supervision of then captain Ramnaresh Sarwan, made it to the final of the league last year.

However, coming up against a spirited Jamaica Tallawahs aggregation, which included captain Chris Gayle, Kumar Sangakkara, Vernon Philander and Muttiah Muralitharan, they were beaten by seven wickets in the decider.

"I am confident in my team. We did not make a lot of changes so we should not take a long time to gel," said Ramdin, who was also handed the West Indies Test captain position recently.

"Captaining the Guyana Amazon Warriors is a new experience for me, but I am ready to take up that role. I will be working hard to ensure we come out as winners this season."

first match

The Warriors, who are down to play Marlon Samuels' Antigua Hawksbills in the first match of the season, in just over two weeks, are again expected to bank their bowling hopes on spinner Sunil Narine and left-arm pacer Krishmar Santokie.

As for their batting, they will be missing the services of New Zealand batsman James Franklin, their top batsman last year, but will be hoping that fellow Kiwi Martin Guptil and new recruit Corey Anderson will be able to fill the gap. Additionally, they will have the services of Pakistan batsman Mohammed Hafeez and Lendl Simmons, who was a standout during the recent Indian Premier League.

"We have a number of players on the team, who can truly make a positive impact ... , such as Martin Guptill and Lendl Simmons, just to name a few," Ramdin said.
