Donovan 'Police' Campbell who was crowned Wray and Nephew Welterweight Contender in 2012, will face a formidable foe in the person of the No. 1 seeded Sakima Mullings tonight.

The two will clash in the second semi-final of the 2014 series, at the Wray and Nephew Colosseum, Downtown Kingston, near the Transport Centre, starting at 9.30.

Last Wednesday, Tsetsi Davis, the No. 3 seeded boxer, defeated the No. 2 seeded Howard Eastman, by unanimous decision and is now waiting patiently for tonight's winner. The final takes place on July 9 at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

From the outset of the competition, Mullings has been the favoured Contender and this has been firmly established by his No. 1 rating. He showed awesome power in his early fights and his technical knockout victory over Richard Holmes, in his last fight, showed that he is in great shape.

He takes an impressive 14-1 record into the ring tonight, and his nine stoppages are clear indications that there is every likelihood that the fight will not go the distance. f Campbell whose record stands at 13 wins and eight losses, was impressive in his quarter-final bout with Christopher "Shaka" Henry, however, and his chances of victory cannot be diminished.

early rounds

Known for his defensive skills, he shocked spectators and his opponent with a performance of sustained aggression. After cruising in the early rounds, he showed speed of hands and feet as the bout progressed and he literally rang rings around Henry, and had him on the brink of a knockout, when the final bell sounded. It was one of his best performances in the ring.

He was a very confident man this past week and said emphatically: "I am afraid of no man and I am coming to fight."

He will have to, as Mullings has also made it clear that he means business. He normally has a subdued approach, but was emphatic yesterday, when asked the likely outcome.

"I have one aim in view and that is to be the Contender champion this year, and anyone who is in the way is going to be removed," was his bold prediction. It should be an action-packed encounter and Contender boxing fans are undoubtedly in for an exciting night.
