Melbourne Cricket Club's Sadiki Bolt said the need to consolidate after his team had lost early wickets was the major reason behind him to scoring his maiden Jamaica Cricket Association Senior Cup century at the weekend. Bolt, the younger brother of double Olympic sprint champion, Usain Bolt, hit 119 to lead his team to a 44 runs win over Lucas CC at Melbourne Oval. A former Grace Shield and Tappin Cup standout for Calabar High, Bolt, who last year represented Jamaica XI against the touring Sagicor High Performance Centre, stroked 10 fours during his innings. This helped Melbourne to post a competitive 351 for seven declared in their first and only innings. Leg spin all-rounder Damion Jacobs, 51, Nikita Miller, 35 not out, and Carlton Baugh Jr, 29, were the other chief scorers for the hosts. a standout Lucas made 158 and 159. Jacobs, who was a standout for Jamaica towards the latter part of the regional first-class season, was the pick of Melbourne's bowlers with seven for 44 in the loser's second innings. "We had a bad start having lost three quick wickets for 30-odd runs and needed someone to stand up for the team," said Bolt. "I decided that person was going to be me, and along with Baugh, and later Jacobs, we were able to consolidate and comeback. "It is a good start for me and the plan is to build on it from here, get closer to my goal of scoring close to 600 runs this season, and finish high in the top runs scorers standings." Elsewhere, Bolt was joined in the century-making column by Kensington's Ryan Francis, who scored 146 in their 305 runs win over Boys' Town at Collie Smith Drive. Kensington, after winning the toss and batting, scored 304 for six with Cassius Burton, 83, and Horace Miller, 40, best supporting Francis. Boys' Town, in their response, were bowled out for 55 on the back of five for 14 from pacer Jason Dawes. Kensington, in their second innings, then compiled 202 for four declared with Delbert Gayle getting 75, Anthony Wadsworth 52 and Francis, 51 not out. Batting a second time, Boys' Town were dismissed for 146. |
