Bailey elated for Excelsior cricket double |

Excelsior coach, Kirkland Bailey, is elated at witnessing his team cop the coveted urban area Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association junior cricket double on Tuesday.
The boys from Mountain View, who recently won the urban area Under-16 double, added the Under-14 title after victory over St George's College. "We are elated to win the Under-14 crown, which has allowed us to complete the urban junior double," said Bailey. "It was one of the objectives of our programme from the onset of the season, and we achieved it in a resounding and convincing manner. "For example, during the Under-14 competition we scored over 400 three times in six matches, while only one team made over 140 against us and that was St George's in the final." The final, which was played at Melbourne Oval, saw Excelsior winning the toss and electing to bat. They posted a challenging 259 for nine off their allotted 50 overs. The in-form Raywin Senior, who hit a record 405 not out in the first round of the tournament, was the victors chief run scorer with 131. He was supported by Ohkachie Brown, who got 56, against Janio Brown, who claimed six for 71. St George's, in their response, could only manage 149. Kirk McKenzie, 59, led the way for the Georgians against Rohan Beadle five for 75, and Brown, three for 23. Excelsior, who lost the all-island Under-16 title to Manchester High last week, will now turn their attention to the all-island Under-14 final where they are down to meet Clarendon College. |
