Tsetsi 'Lights out' Davis, from Jamaica, earned himself a place in the Wray and Nephew 2014 Welterweight Contender finals on July 9, with a hard-earned victory over wily Guyanese boxer, Howard 'Battersea Bomber' Eastman, at the Wray and Nephew Colesium, Downtown Kingston, on Wednesday night. It was a thrilling encounter over eight rounds that had spectators cheering wildly, as Davis pounded out a unanimous decision. Judge Keith Brown had it 78-74, judge Lindell Allen 79-73 and judge Clifford Brown 79-72. Davis, who is a finalist for the second successive year, will now meet the winner of the Sakima Mullings, versus Donovan Campbell semi-final which will take place at the same venue, next Wednesday, June 25. Davis had the better of the encounters, especially in the first six rounds. When the wily veteran Eastman pulled out all the stops in the last two rounds looking for a knockout, Davis seemed vulnerable, but clever defense work, eventually took him to victory. |
