Star Tell Me Pastor

Allow them to decide on their own
Dear Pastor,

First, let me commend you on the great job you are doing. I am 20 years old and I am a regular reader of your column. I read an article recently about a young lady who was living with a man in Jamaica and at the same time had her man overseas. She said she was not going to tell the guy in Jamaica that she would be leaving the island and was willing to give him everything she had here. I think that you should allow her to make her own decisions whether she wants to inform her Jamaican partner that she's going abroad or not.

These men nowadays are not thinking and are doing some really silly things. I was walking along North Street the other day and heard of an incident where a man stabbed his girlfriend several times in her neck, causing her death. I am not quite sure what caused him to kill her, but I overheard someone saying that she was to go abroad the following day and had planned to leave him.

I honestly think that it's best for you to let her make her own decision, because you may not know how the partner will react upon her telling him that she's leaving. These men nowadays are making jealousy get the better of them.

Concerned

Dear Concerned,

Thanks for your comments. I do remember telling the young woman that the decision to tell or not to tell her Jamaican lover that she is leaving the country is totally up to her. As you say, not all men can accept the fact that their women are leaving them without threatening them and even carrying out the threats. Sometimes it's better for a woman not to say anything, but that is a decision that she has to make on her own.
