The three St Thomas police constables charged with the 2010 murder of Daine Hope in Lloyds near Yallahs had their $2m bail extended in the Morant Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Constables Kevin Thomas, Moses Donald and Lascelles Dunkley who were attached to the Yallahs police at the time of the shooting, will also have to adhere to bail conditions including surrender of their travel documents and report to the police twice each week. They return to court on November 27, 2014.

At the time of the alleged shooting, it was reported that the constables were on an operation in Lloyds searching for Hope. It is alleged they went to Hope's house and saw him hiding in a barrel and when approached, he allegedly pulled a weapon and the police retaliated by shooting him.

Hope was taken to hospital where he died.

The shooting, subsequent death and discovery of a barrel with blood floating in the Yallahs Pond resulted in a demonstration by the residents in the area.

In their protest, the residents claimed that the barrel in the Yallahs Pond was the same one Hope was hiding in from the police and that he had been killed in cold blood. The residents further questioned why the barrel was not secured by the police as it should form part of the evidence in Hope's death.

The concerns led to an investigation by the Bureau of Special Investigations. Two weeks ago, the director of public prosecution (DPP) ruled that the men be charged with murder. The constables are represented by attorneys Hensley Williams, Valrie Neita-Robertson and Debra Martin.
