Jamaican on sex-trafficking charges faces US court
André Williams, STAR Writer

A Jamaican man, who investigators characterise as a violent pimp, who allegedly abused and forced women into prostitution in Australia and elsewhere, will stand trial later this week in the United States.

According to www.news.com.au, a sadist accused of beating, raping and pimping out Australian women, including a teenager he married on the Gold Coast, faces dozens of charges including sex trafficking by force, identity fraud and coercion, after being arrested following a joint operation by Australian and US authorities.

The accused man is 37-year-old Damion St Patrick Baston.

Among his victims was an 18-year-old woman, who he prostituted, violently abused and threatened to kill during their relationship, after meeting at a party in 2009.

"Baston is a violent pimp who has trafficked women across several continents, including in the southern district of Florida, Australia, and Dubai," prosecutor Roy Altman told the court in an earlier sitting.

According to reports filed in court, A 21-year-old Lithuanian woman, known to the court as GP, who allegedly worked as a prostitute for Baston, told police he hung her by her feet over a fire escape, forced her to remain in a scalding shower for several hours and beat her relentlessly.

THE STAR gathered that after a report was made to US State Department, authorities later held Baston, who was travelling under an identity stolen from an American man years earlier.

Baston was arrested in New York on December 17. He is being represented by attorney-at-law David Rowe.
