Miss Teen Portmore Pageant auditions tomorrow |
|||||
The reigning Miss Teen Portmore, Shannon Johnson, greets Police Commissioner Owen Ellington, during an event in Portmore shortly after she was crowned last year. - File The popular Miss Teen Portmore Pageant will have its auditions tomorrow at 12 noon at McMaster Centre at the Portmore Mall in St Catherine. According to executive producer of the pageant, Ronald Waite, hundreds of girls will be seeking a spot in the elimination show which is less than a month away. Octron Promotions has produced the pageant for the past 11 years. The event has been very successful and has captured the interest of not only Portmore residents, but people all over Jamaica. This pageant is now a calendar event and people of all walks of life have made it their own. Last year's pageant was won by Shannon Johnson. The concept for the Miss Teen Portmore (Summer) Pageant came out of the need to facilitate and assist teenage girls in Portmore, who had nothing positive to occupy their time with during the summer. The pageant focuses primarily on the contestant's knowledge of current affairs, Jamaican culture and history. It aims to assist the personal development of young ladies through grooming sessions, public speaking, and social development. It also contributes to their educational development. One major criterion is that contestants must have at least a C+ average, as the organisers promote educational growth and vision for the teens. The girls must be between the ages of 14 and 18 years and exhibit a talent. The elimination show is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Portmore Pines Plaza. |
