St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) coach Clive Ledgister has pointed to resilience as the main reason his team was able to defeat Vere Technical in the final match of the inaugural ISSA/Digicel All-Island Twenty20 championship, over the weekend.

The boys from Santa Cruz, who were winning their third major title of the season, came away victors after eking out a narrow one-wicket win over their Clarendon-based counterparts at Manchester High.

Batting first after winning the toss, Vere posted a modest 115, to which STETHS replied with 117 for nine, with one ball remaining.

"It's a good win, and one in which we showed character," said Ledgister.

"There were moments in the game when they had the better of us, but at no time did we believe that we could not come back."

Vere, who were losing to STETHS in a final for the third time this season, were guided to their target by national Under-19 representative Thavi Spencer.

The left-arm spinner scored 58, and was assisted by regional Under-19 all-rounder, Fabian Allen, who got 20.

Allen's regional teammate, fast bowler Marquino Mindley, who took four for 16, led the way for STETHS with Leonardo Salmon, two for 14, the next best.

STETHS, in their pursuit, were led to their target on the back of an unbeaten 24 from national Under-19 batsman Dennis McGarvey.

He also got assistance from Odain McCatty, 17. West Indies Under-19 captain Ramaal Lewis, who made 11.

Ryan Burnett with four for 14, and left-arm spinner Allen, three for 23, claimed most wickets for the losers.

"It's one of those games," said Vere coach Dewith Coleman.

"We were in it all the way down to the end, but we just could not hold on. It's disappointing as we were confident of this one. But that's how it goes."

STETHS, who for their efforts took home the winner's purse of $150,000, had earlier put claim to the league Headley Cup, and the rural area Twenty20 title. Vere pocketed $100,000.

The third-place play-off between Eltham and Manchester resulted in the latter coming out on top by 71 runs. Manchester first made 140 before returning to restrict Eltham to 69.
