Alpha Boys' School is expecting to see an increase in revenues from its clothing line, Alpha Wear, following recent Labour Day activities.

Completed in partnership with the Digicel Foundation, activities included the renovation of the building in which screen-printing is done to provide more adequate space for the clothing store, offices and production space.

Joshua Chamberlain, special projects manager at the Alpha Boys' School, described the day's activities saying, "What Digicel Foundation has done today is make the impossible, possible. The work carried out will assist Alpha in progressing our skills-training programme and allow the school to make history all over again."

Last August, the Foundation partnered with the school to acquire its own screen-printing machine and related equipment to properly establish Alpha Wear. It is expected that this machine will not only allow the students to be trained with a more marketable skill, but also generate income for the school to offset operational expenses. Given the recent transition of the school from a residential programme to an education and skills-training institution, the opportunities afforded by Alpha Wear became even more critical.

Kerry-Jo Lyn, senior programme manager at the Digicel Foundation, explained that the ability for the school to generate increased income will be imeperative for its future success. "We are so proud to continue our support of the Alpha Boys' family. This project will proivde the school with increased sustainabilty and allow the boys a means to learn a skill and achieve their independence."

The Foundation's volunteers also helped to revamp the school's greenhouse, plant nursery and gardens.
