Jamaican wins US$15k racial-profiling lawsuit

A Jamaican has reportedly been awarded US$15,000 by the Orange County Sheriff's Department in Vermont, United States, following a settlement in a racial-profiling lawsuit last year.

Jamaican-American Bentley Morgan, was reportedly pulled over by a sheriff's department captain in 2011 for failing to use a turn signal, later conducting an almost month-long investigation in attempts to prove if Morgan was another man, with a similar birthday who was wanted in Florida on cocaine possession charges.

According to the Bennington Banner, a settlement reached in December not only awarded Morgan monetary damages but asked the sheriff's department to update its bias-free policing policy and train staff in "fair and impartial policing".
