Teachers have been coming forward to enunciate a number of creative ventures they have been embarking on to enrich education offerings in classes.

One such practice is the use of music to deliver the curriculum. One such educator is Shelly-Ann Chaikim-Reid, grade-five teacher, Angels Primary School, in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

"We utilise singing and dancing in almost everything that we do. The students love it and is a very effective tool for teaching," she noted.

The Star was treated to a song which, the teacher pointed out, was used in a recent lesson on fractions.

Chaikim-Reid emphasised that she has found her training in guidance and counselling to be helpful in dealing with problems, which may arise in the teaching/learning environment, and underlying ones which would necessitate interfacing with parents.

She also claimed it has been useful in enabling her manage her class effectively.

The class motto is in the form of a song, A Come We Come Fi Learn, and shepointed out that they take it seriously.

She was trained professionally at St Joseph's Teachers' College and International University of the Caribbean, earning a teacher's diploma and bachelor's degree in guidance and counselling in the process.

This vibrant educator, who became a member of staff at Angels Primary on September 1, 2006, is also involved with the school's choir and heritage club.
