Quarter-miler Javere Bell has been added to Jamaica's team to the IAAF World Relays set for Nassau, The Bahamas, next weekend, with team manager, Marie Tavares hailing the 40-member squad ahead of the inaugural staging of the meet.

Scheduled to take place at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium on May 24 and 25, the relay carnival will see nations competing against each other in the 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m and the 4x1500m, with Jamaica expected to feature in all except the 4x1500m.

Tavares was named to the list of officials down to travel with the team along with Dennis Gordon (assistant manager), Maurice Wilson (technical leader), Michael Clarke (coach), Fitz Coleman (coach), Paul Clarke (coach), Jermaine Shand (coach), Dr Kingsley King (doctor), Nathaniel Davis (masseur), Colin Turner (masseur) and Gaynor Downer (physiotherapist).

"It's a young team but I expect them to do really well," Tavares said.

"Jamaica is very good with relays and it should show at the championships, overall it's a very good team, good female team and good male team."

The team will be led by IAAF World Championships triple gold medallist and world 60m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce as well as the returning Yohan Blake, who will be competing at his first championships since his hamstring injury last year.

Other top names include Nesta Carter, Kaliese Spencer, Warren Weir, Nickel Ashmeade, Stephenie-Ann McPherson, Kerron Stewart, Novlene Williams-Mills, Kemar Bailey-Cole and Michael Frater.

Youngsters such as the fastest Jamaican so far this year Andrew Fisher, Simoya Campbell, Chris-Ann Gordon and Julian Forte will also don the national colours in The Bahamas.

Tavares noted that the interest among athletes has been exceptionally high towards the relays and also highlighted the experienced support staff that will be travelling along with the team.

"We had quite a few people who were interested in going but of course we couldn't take everyone, so I think the selection committee did well to pick the best possible team for each event,"said Tavares. "Some of them (athletes) I am sure are disappointed but it's a numbers game and you can take so much and no more."

"The coaching staff is very experienced and most of them have represented us at the very highest level at the IAAF World Championships as well as the Olympic Games and so on, so the athletes are in very good hands," added Tavares.

The athletes are expected to assemble in The Bahamas on Thursday, May 22, two days before the start of the weekend championships.
