A man accused of robbing a police officer and making off with his gold chain was remanded when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The accused, Jermaine Jackson, higgler of a downtown Kingston address, pleaded not guilty to robbery with aggravation.

The court heard that, on April 24, the complainant, who is a district constable, was reportedly walking along a section of the St William Grant Park, downtown Kingston, when two men armed with a knife held him up and robbed him of his gold chain valuing approximately $59,000. Subsequently, the robbers ran and Jackson was held by police personnel on bicycle patrol duty.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered the man remanded, pending trial on June 18.
