Horace Fisher, Star Writer

Police on Tuesday arrested a 51-year-old woman and charged her with attempting to pervert the course of justice and threatening a Crown witness.

The woman, Mavis Jackson, from Sandy Bay in May Pen, Clarendon, was charged in relation to a case involving her son, Dwayne Barrett, who is in custody charged with robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of firearm.

According to police reports, the 51-year-old mother is accused of approaching the witness and offering him money in exchange of having him change his statement. It is alleged that the witness, however, refused Jackson's offer and she reportedly threatened to have the witness killed.

The matter was reported to the May Pen police and Jackson was taken into custody. Following further investigations, she was arrested and charged. She is scheduled to appear in the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court on May 29, when her case will be mentioned.
