Security officer in court for impersonating a policeman

A security officer who is accused of impersonating a policeman pleaded not guilty when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

He is 29-year-old David Stanton, who is to return to court on June 10 for trial.

It is alleged that Stanton pretended that he was a cop because a man was stalking him.

Allegations are that the complainant was taken to a police station in the Corporate Area under arrest by the accused. It is alleged that when the accused was asked by the police if he was an officer, he said yes.

The court also heard that the accused was asked to show his identification and said that he did not have it.

He was subsequently arrested after he reportedly failed to prove that he was cop.
