Men get three months for stealing bodywash

Two men accused of stealing a quantity of items, including expired body wash, from a company where they were employed, were sentenced to three months imprisonment when they appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The accused men, 29-year-old security guard Andre Allen, of Waterloo Road, Kingston 10, and 30-year-old driver assistant, Michael Scotland of Bridgeport, St Catherine, pleaded not guilty to simple larceny.

The stolen goods, property of a popular distribution company, included an igloo, packages of talcum powder, expired body wash, among other items, valued at approximately $300,000.

The court heard that, both men were recorded, on camera, stealing goods from a container on the compound of the distribution company.

Both men were separately cautioned by officers, to which Scotland reportedly said, "Offica, mi wi pay back fi di goods dem."

Both men were taken to the Hunts Bay Police Station for questioning. On May 5, the police were made to observe video footage, which showed the men in the act of stealing an assortment of goods from the container.

When asked by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey for a defence, urging the accused men to tell her why they should not go to jail for the offence, Allen replied: "I don't like the livity around there so."

The magistrate sentenced both men to three months' imprisonment.
