GROS ISLET, St Lucia, CMC Nikita Miller has condemned Jamaica's loose fielding which let Windward Islands off the hook on the second day of the Headley/Weekes Trophy final yesterday and says his side must improve in order to take control of the game. After piling up 392 in their first innings, Jamaica then dropped four catches as the Windwards raced to 113 without loss at the close, to trail by 279 runs heading into today's third day at the Beausejour Cricket Ground. "What happened this evening here was not acceptable from a Jamaica team - 113 runs from 32 overs is not good," Miller lamented. "The first half hour tomorrow is very, very vital. We will have to be come out and do a better job." Devon Smith, the out-of-favour West Indies opener, counter-attacked to finish the day unbeaten on 66 from 94 balls, including eight fours. His partner Tyrone Theophile lived a charmed life for his 44 not out, however, surviving no less than four chances to end the day just short of a half-century. He hit two fours and one six from 98 balls. Miller promised Jamaica would hit back strongly today.
"I believe once we come out and bowl the right area and take our chances we will rebound," Miller said. |
