Excelsior to face Jago in schoolgirl football final
RAYMOND GRAHAM, Star Writer

It will be a repeat of last year's final in the ISSA KFC Locker Room Schoolgirl Football Competition, as defending champions Excelsior and St Jago advanced from yesterday's semis in contrasting styles.

St Jago defeated St Elizabeth Technical 3-1 in the first of a double header at the Spanish Town Prison Oval, while it took extra time and sudden-death penalty-kicks eventually, 5-3, to decide the winner of the second game. The score was locked 2-2 after full and extra time.

In the second game, which was a battle between the last two champions, it was tit-for-tat all the way.

After an even affair, the defending champions, Excelsior, took the lead in the 44th minute, when Tatyana Pitter lobbed a ball over the head of the goalkeeper. Lennon gave it their all in the remaining minutes, and their determination paid off in the 53rd minute when they got a penalty, which Shantel Thompson made no mistake in kicking past the Excelsior custodian.

Lennon went 2-1 in front in the 63rd minute when Camille Gordon scored a header, but one minute later, Excelsior drew level when Nicole Brodrick scored.

"It was a nervcous affair for us, but over the years, I am lucky to win games in these situation. My team is much better than what we saw today but, somehow, when our girls play against Lennon, they seemed to be nervous, but come tomorrow in the final against St Jago, we are very confident," said Excelsior coach Xavier Gilbert.
