STETHS take rural T20 |
|||||
Clive Ledgister St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) underlined their status as rural area cricket kingpins after recording a 100-run win over Vere Technical in the final of the inaugural ISSA/Digicel Rural Twenty20 at the weekend at STETHS. Batting first, STETHS, who reclaimed the Headley Cup recently, posted a competitive 151 for nine with national Under-19 batsman Odane McCatty, 43, and Kevon Williams, 33 not out, guiding the way. West Indies Under-19 representatives, all-rounder and captain Ramaal Lewis, and fast bowler Marquino Mindley, made two and nine, respectively. This was against off-spinner Demus McPherson, five for 27, and West Indies Under-19 left-arm spinner, Fabian Allen, two for 22. Vere, in response, were then blown away for 51 off 11.5 overs, after being 38 without loss at one stage. Fast bowler Williams, four for 15, and leg-spinner Rushane Manning, three for three, led the way for the boys from Santa Cruz, while Rohan Ferguson, 23, and Randre Christie, 16, made the most runs for the losers. Allen and national Under-19 left-arm spinner Thavi Spencer, who much was dependent on if Vere were to come through, both went without scoring. "It was a very good result for us as after getting the better of them in the final of the Headley Cup recently, the goal was to make it two from two," said Clive Ledgister. Vere coach Dewith Coleman, said his team were simply outplayed. "I think STETHS really dominated the game and played better cricket than us," he said. "They occupied the crease for the 20 overs, fielded better, and generally bowled in the right areas. "For us, it came down to poor batting, as everybody just wanted to go at the runs, and not willing to pace themselves."
