Tough test for Axe |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() His precise punching often cuts opponents down like stubborn trees standing in the way of a sharpened axe, but Jamaican feather weight champion Nicholas Walters could have his hands full with rugged Armenian fighter Vakhtang 'The Raging Bull' Darchinyan. The two will face off in Macao, China on May 31st, the Jamaican's second defence of the title he won on home soil, with a 2012 win over Darius Prescott. Walters previously defended the crown last year, with an impressive fourth-round knockout victory over Mexico's Alberto Garza, his 19th in 23 fights. The hard-punching Darchinyan could prove a much tougher challenge. The 38-year-old has been a professional since April 2003 and has an impressive 39-6-1 record. Darchinyan has held world titles in the super flyweight and bantamweight divisions and was the undisputed champion in the super flyweight class in 2009. The Armenian's devastating punching power is clearly evident in the fact that he has won 28 of his fights by the knockout route and only been stopped twice in his career. Darchinyan last fight, however, ended in defeated at the hands of Nonito Donaire in November last year in Corpus Christi, Texas. Incidentally it was the same card on which Walters knocked out Alberto Garza in four rounds. 'The Bull' was leading on all the scorecards all the way before getting caught by a fierce punch from Donaire in the ninth round. He was then put under severe pressure by Donaire, and the referee stepped in and called a halt to the fight. Walters was originally slated to make his title defence against Mexican Alejandro Perez, but Perez lost a fight slated to be a warm-up for the May title fight, against Carlos Martinez on March 29 and that caused him to lose his title fight opportunity. Another fighter on the card Simpiwe Vetyeka was the man that Walters should originally have fought on the May 31 card, but Vetyka did not like the idea of going up against him at this time, and his camp was able to get a change of opponent.
