Court hears that ...Driver hits man in front cops

Several police officers were left dumbstruck recently, when a man deliberately used his car to hit another man from his bike, right in their line of sight.

It must have taken a while for the cops to compose themselves and wonder how 23-year-old Dexter Samuels could have committed the act right before their eyes. For his troubles, Samuels, a livestock farmer and plumber, was fined $35,000 or six months' imprisonment by Resident Magistrate Sheron Barnes when he appeared in the Whithorn Resident Magistrate's Court last week. He pleaded guilty.

Allegations are that on March 21, Samuels had a dispute with the complainant, Orane Vacianna, in Petersfield, Westmoreland. Following the heated dispute, Vacianna got on his motor bike and rode away.

Samuels, apparently not feeling satisfied with the outcome of the argument, jumped in his blue Toyota Altis motor car, drove down the complainant and hit him from the bike, in the full view and presence of some police officers.

The collision caused injuries to Vacianna and damage to the motor bike. The police later arrested and charged Samuels in connection with the incident.
