ROCKETMAN - File

ROCKETMAN's victory in the Prince Consort Stakes confirmed there is no pace too hot for him to chase and it will take a big effort to outrun him in tomorrow's 2000 Guineas.

His previous effort, five lengths second to stablemate PRINCESS POPSTAR in December's Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, the race which made her Horse of the Year, was the closest a rival has been to the speedy filly in four victories.

The unknown facing ROCKETMAN is Wayne DaCosta's INSANE BOLT whose only conqueror in his last six starts was PRINCESS POPSTAR, twice losing to the filly in two-year-old races last season.

DaCosta's colt was scratched at the gate in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, missing an opportunity to be gauged against ROCKETMAN. He made one appearance this year, beating BOY WONDER at 1400 metres in February, bypassing the March 16 Prince Consort Stakes won by ROCKETMAN.

BOY WONDER had one easy race off a four-month lay-up before facing INSANE BOLT and was diagnosed as still carrying an injury after his loss, putting a question sign over that race as a valid Guineas warm-up for DaCosta's runner.

Whereas ROCKETMAN has proven that he has pace and staying power, INSANE BOLT will go the gate with stamina limitations in doubt, both by breeding and running style. He has never been worse than second entering the lane in any of his five victories.

With TALENTED TONY K sure to run a scorching first six furlongs, INSANE BOLT could be dragged off his bridle sooner than he would like with 126lb, making them all lambs to the slaughter for a closing ROCKETMAN.

Much is being made of Richard Azan's FRANFIELD, an impressive winner of his last two starts. The chestnut colt has, indeed, improved since fitted with a figure eight and given more real estate.

It should be noted that FRANFIELD has not carried more than 117lb in either of his two victories and will be facing much tougher horses at level weight of 126lb.

A sure-shot pair of bankers on tomorrow's 10-race card is the Canada-bred RAGAMUFFIN in the second event and Azan's PISCEAN ROCKET in the eighth.

RAGAMUFFIN is actually down in class after trying to spring a surprise among open allowance horses on debut, finishing two and three quarter lengths fourth in a gate-to-wire attempt against PETE'SWILDONE, UPPA TUNE and EL PODEROSO.

PISCEAN ROCKET is also down in class, dropping from a third-place finish in open overnight allowance, behind TRADITIONAL PRINCE and RIO COBRE, to race among horses who have never won at the level.
