Rise of the rocket |

Shelly-ann fraser-pryce's path to being greatest ever She's goes by the moniker 'the Pocket Rocket'. It makes perfect sense considering her diminutive 5" 0' frame, but as far as her ability on the track is concerned, the sprinter stands tall, a giant among greats; a champion. In truth, the references extend also to her rocket-like rise in the fast lane of international sprinting. It's hard to remember that prior to the 2008 Olympic Trials, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was just a name on a start list, an unknown even to some of the most avid track and field fans. She was never a standout at Boys and Girls' Champs and with a personal best of 11.31 going into the trials, no one really bothered to give her much of a chance. A second place finish at the trials led to the Waterhouse native becoming the first Jamaican woman to win an Olympic 100m gold medal in Beijing. That was just the beginning, as with the championships, came the medals. In five short years, Fraser-Pryce has helped herself to 12 Olympic, World Championships and World Indoors medals, including seven individual medals. Never before has the world seen such a dominant female sprinter as far as medals are concerned. Titles She is also the first woman to hold World 100m, 200m and 60m titles simultaneously. Not bad for a girl that went into the Beijing Olympics with nothing more than a big smile on her face. Now, the 2013 IAAF Female World Athlete of the Year is looking to grow her kingdom. Having experienced the harsh realities of life in one of Jamaica's hardest communities, the little dynamo is all too aware that she needs to keep working hard and remain hungry, if she is to remain on top of the sprinting hill. There is little question that she is today's greatest and statistically, the best the world has ever seen in terms of silverware. Still there are a few targets as she looks to join the 10.6 seconds and 21 seconds crowd in the 100m and 200m. You wouldn't bet against her achieving both over the coming seasons.
