After recording one of the most outstanding performances at last year's ISSA Boys and Girls' Championships, St Jago's Kimone Shaw is confident that she is capable of repeating the feat when the event gets under way this week.

Shaw was a triple winner, all with record performances, in Class IV. The athlete captured the sprint double as she took the 100 metres in 11.75 seconds before taking the 200 metres in 24.28 seconds. She then showed her versatility by competing in the long jump, where she equalled the 2008 record of 5.52 metres set by St Elizabeth Technical's Opal James.

Shaw will be competing in her first year in Class III but is expressing confidence about taking another triple.

"I want to do the same thing I did last year by winning all three titles," Shaw told Star Sports.

"I am very confident I can win again and also break the three records in my first year in the class," she added. After her performance at the Carifta Trials, where she turned back more senior counterparts in winning the Under-18 Girls' 100 metres in an impressive personal best of 11.55 seconds, there are not many that will bet against her.

Shaw experienced a setback at the Central Championships, losing in the 200 metres, where she finished third, but she remains unpreturbed.

"I was running under instructions from my coach, so that was not any concern to me," she said.

Based on her impressive win at the Carifta Trials, where her Class II teammate, Shanice Reid, was way back in second in 11.72 seconds, she could erase Shauna Help's record of 11.50 seconds set two years ago.

She, however, has a lot of respect for her rivals.

"I know I am in good condition to come out and win my events, but I have a lot of respect for the other girls as they all are coming out for a win. I see everyone in my race as a competitor, but after my success last year, I am very inspired," Shaw said.
