Shivnarine Chanderpaul

Despite not representing the West Indies in one-day internationals in nearly three years, middle-order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul remains optimistic of participating in next year's ICC World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

"God's willing, yes, I would like to be apart of the World Cup team," said Chanderpaul.

"I would love to be there and try to help the region win the title. However, as you know, it is not my call. It's up to the guys in charge."

The 39-year-old, who was a standout for Guyana during the recent regional Super50 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago, last represented the region in one-dayers at the ICC World Cup in India in 2011.

Since then, however, he has been overlooked by the regional selectors.

The veteran of 268 one-dayers at an average 41.60, in his attempts to reassure the regional selectors of his credentials, played two games during the Super50.

In first encounter, he made 79 against Ireland, while in his second he scored 65 against Jamaica.

An injury, however, ensured that he did not take any further part in the tournament, perhaps brining about the demise of his country who went down to eventual champions Barbados in the semi-finals.

"I don't know what else to do," Chanderpaul said when asked what he thinks he need to do to impress the selectors of his one-day credentials.

"I competed in the regional one-day tournament ... and I think I ended up close to the top-five batsmen. I think that should say something."

Chanderpaul, who has scored 11 centuries and 59 half-centuries in the format, also said one of the reasons he wants to return to the regional outfit is to try and get to the 10,000 runs landmark.

He currently has 8778 runs.

"It would mean a lot to play in another World Cup because there are some things that I hope to achieve," he said.

"Ten thousand one-day runs is one of them, and, hopefully, I can achieve it."
