World Indoor mile relay silver medallist Verone Chambers says her experience in Sopot, Poland, has proven to be additional inspiration as she aims to run even faster and make Jamaica's team to the Commonwealth Games this summer. Chambers, 25, ran the first leg for her country in the qualifying heats of the mile relay and was pleased with her run. "I think I did pretty good, it being my first time on such a big stage. I did what I was supposed to do and I'm pleased with my performance," she said. memorable moments Beyond her pleasing performance, Chambers said the experience would reside with her for a long time. "There were so many memorable moments that I can't choose just one - being on the same team with people I've always looked up to, being able to interact with top athletes from other countries, and also signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. It was all so crazy and surreal," she said. Leading up to the championships where the medal she won was one of five snared by Jamaica, Chambers said she had been preparing by competing at a number of small meets in Michigan and Indiana. "I've been training really hard this year with Coach (Doug) Edgar at Indiana Tech. It's a very motivating atmosphere, and with the programme he has me on, I believe there should be a lot of improvements this year," said the former Edwin Allen High standout. "I want to dip below 51seconds and I am also aiming at making all of Jamaica's national teams." It had been a while since Chambers last represented her country, but she knew her preparation would ensure that she did well. "Before Worlds, the last time I competed internationally was 2010 when I made CAC Games and Under-23 Championships," she revealed, while adding that she has her sights set on Glasgow. |
