Free Earth Hour Concert ... staged by Jamaicansmusic.com, Flow

Ikaya

Jamaica will join over 150 countries participating in Earth Hour on March 29.

It is the single largest symbolic mass participation event in the world which celebrates a commitment to the planet by switching off lights for one designated hour.

This global campaign encourages individuals, businesses and governments to protect and take positive actions for the environment.

This year, Jamaica's participation is being marked with the staging of a free reggae concert conceptualised by jamaicansmusic.com, in partnership with Flow.

Rootz Underground, Nature, Ikaya, Sky Grass, Jesse Royal, Machu Ezra, Runkus, Dann-I and Cali P will be taking to the stage at this acoustic reggae concert where thousands of persons are expected to attend, signalling their commitment for the fight against climate change.

At 8:30 p.m., all Jamaicans are asked to turn off non-essential power to symbolize their commitment to join the fight to save planet Earth. At this same time, attendees at the concert will release 100 lanterns into the night sky to officially mark Earth Hour.

Jamaica's premier broadband service provider, Flow, partners with jamaicansmusic.com, is encouraging all Jamaicans to make their commitment to adopt even a single change to their lifestyle that will have a positive impact on the environment.

"Climate change is one of the most important issues affecting our planet. Our partnership for the Earth Hour Concert enables us to demonstrate our commitment to action on climate change via initiatives to minimise our negative impact on the environment," said Gail Abrahams, director of corporate communications for Columbus Communications Jamaica Limited, operators of the Flow brand.

"As a technology company, we use this opportunity to highlight the importance of smart and responsible use of technology so that we are solving problems, rather than creating more for the future."

Alex Morrissey, chief executive officer at jamaicansmusic.com, welcomes Flow's return as a partner for Earth Hour 2014. "We're grateful to have Flow on board again for the second Earth Hour Concert. With Flow's assistance, we will make progress on our efforts to transcend into a national movement through their reach to a wide cross-section of customers. It's great to have corporate Jamaica demonstrating their firm commitment and recognition of the importance of efforts to save our planet," he said.

"Our music has proven time and time again to be one of the most effective ways to convey important messages to Jamaicans. This Earth Hour Concert provides an opportunity to increase awareness of environmental issues in Jamaica. We are excited to join with these talented artistes and the organisers of Earth Hour for this incredible event and encourage as many persons as possible to attend," said Abrahams.

The Earth Hour reggae concert is free and will be held at the Ranny Williams Centre on Saturday, March 29, from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
