MoBay look to continue title charge

Marc Stamp, STAR Sports

Montego Bay United will look to continue their impressive form when they host Portmore United in the Red Stripe Premier League at Wes Pow Park in Montego Bay, St James, tomorrow.

The game is one of four scheduled on the day as the teams battle for valuable points, as the nation's top league enters the home stretch. Montego Bay United are in pole position for one of four spots in the semi-finals. Portmore are struggling but never can be taken lightly.

"This game is a very important one for us. We have completed two rounds already and will be hoping to maximise as much points as possible in the third round in order to qualify early," Pastor Hugh Solomon, interim coach of Montego Bay United, told STAR Sports yesterday.

"We are not thinking about the past, Portmore is a very good team and will be coming to Montego Bay for a victory to move up the table," Solomon said. "We were on a goal drought, but have done well in the last two games. We have picked up in that department," he added.

"The team are very focused and we are confident that we can win the league, but not overconfident. Our aim is to take each game seriously," the interim coach added.

For victory, Montego Bay United will look to Allan Ottey, Lesley St Fleur, Dino Williams, Fabian McCarthy, Jacomena Barrett, among others.

On the other hand, Calvin Lewis, head coach of Portmore United, says the team is hoping to get something positive from the game.

"This is the time when we need to start winning games consistently. We want to get something out of the game. It won't be easy as MoBay have been playing well, while we are struggling," Lewis, who guided Portmore to the title two seasons ago, said.

"We won in the first round and drew against them in the second round, so we are going there for a positive result, but a victory would do us good to improve our chance of advancing to the last four," Lewis said.

Portmore will look to national senior men's team representatives Gariece McPherson, Upston Edwards, Ricardo Morris, as well as Adrian Reid and Alonzo Adlam for victory.

In another game, Sporting Central and Humble Lion will clash in a derby contest that could go either way.
