Blaine given job to track young players |
|||||
( l - r ) Vin Blaine, Horace Burrell The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has revealed plans to build a database, which will track the progress of young players, with a view to integrating them into the national programme. The duty will fall to new Director of Football, Vin Blaine, a post created by the JFF on the mandate of FIFA. "He will ensure that certain systems are in place to develop the proper database of players to allow for the tracking of those players," Burrell said recently. "The director will provide research, keep statistics to help all the teams and provide information from research for all the teams." In the past, the federation has been criticised for failing to use statistics in their favour particularly as it relates to the tracking of young players. Despite having a youth team at the 2001 World Cup, only three players have gone on to make the transition to the national senior team, with the rest fading into relative obscurity. Newly reappointed national coach Winfried Schäfer has highlighted the transition of players from youth to senior level as a key factor for the improvement of the sport at the local level. |
