But a liar could cause you to spend your life in prison or may also cause you to lose your life. So, one should prefer a thief to a liar, because if he can't find anything to steal he is gone. But a liar plans his lies, and when he tells a lie on you and it goes to court no lawyer can win the case.

People believe lies much easier than truth. And a liar is a dangerous person but a thief is also dangerous. A thief plans to steal and if anyone gets in his way he may take that person's life.
