Farquharson solid at Southeastern Championships

FORMER ST Elizabeth Technical jumper Rochelle Farquharson was the highest-placed Jamaican at the very competitive Division I Indoor Southeastern (SEC) Track and Field Championships, which ended on Saturday at the Gilliam Indoor Stadium at the Teaxs A&M University in College Station.

A senior at Mississippi State University, Farqhuarson was an easy winner of the women's long jump, where she had a leap of 6.42 metres.

Tamara Myers (6.28m) from the University of Arkansas and Chanice Porter, the former outstanding national junior representative, competing for Georgia University (6.24 metres), finished second and third respectively. Farqhuarson had earlier finished fifth in the triple jump with 12.69 metres.

Omar McLeod, the former Manchester High and Kingston College top hurdler was the best placed Jamaican male at the meet. A freshman at the University of Arkansas, McLeod had a second placed finish in the men's 60 metres hurdles, where former Wolmer's Boys' top hurdler Yanick Hart, competing for the University of Florida was sixth in the event, in 7.92 seconds.

There was also a top-three finish at the meet for former Wolmer's Boys' jumper Kamal Fuller. Competing for Alabama University in his final season, Fuller had a leap of 7.53 metres to take third in the men's long jump.
