Taylor among big performers at Corporate Area meet |
|||||
Christopher Taylor AFTER a major hitch two weeks ago due to the lack of funds, the first staging of the Corporate Area Track and Field Meet took place at the National Stadium last Saturday. With the ISSA Boys and Girls' Championships just three weeks away, fans who turned out to support the meet were blessed with strong individual performances. Several members of the Calabar Class III boys 4x100 metres Gibson Relays team put on a show, sharing the spotlight with Kingston College's Class I athlete Zharnell Hughes and Nathaniel Bann in Class II. majestic For the females it was Alpha Class IV athlete Kiara Grant and Papine's Tiffany James who stole the show. A second-place finisher in the boys Class III 400 metres at last year's Champs, Christopher Taylor got the crowd in a frenzy. Taylor was in majestic form as he blew away the field in an amazing 48.54 seconds to win the event. The athlete became the first Class III boy to go under 49 seconds and with competition he could threaten the 48-second barrier this season. Taylor came back later for a 22.30 seconds run in the 200 metres, but this time it was his teammate Tyreke Wilson who stole the spotlight. Wilson who had earlier strolled to victory in the 100 metres in 11.11 seconds went under 22 seconds in the 200 metres. In a classy show the young Calabar athlete breezed to an excellent 21.95 seconds, with only the Kingston College duo of Bann in Class II and Hughes in Class I going faster on the day. - R.G. |
