Fast bowler Jerome Taylor reminded another small gathering at Sabina Park of what he is capable of after claiming five wickets on yesterday's third day of the WICB four-day tournament encounter between Jamaica and Guyana at Sabina Park.

Taylor, who has been on the return from injury, ended with impressive figures of five for 29 to lead Jamaica's bowling attack, as Guyana, after resuming on 32 for one in their second innings, closed the day on 219 for eight.

This for an overall lead of 42 runs heading into today's deciding day. The Guyanese, in their first innings, were bowled out for 117 following which Jamaica replied with 296.

Taylor, whose last first-class appearance was in March 2011, before a recurring back strain sidelined him, collated his wickets across two probing spells.

The first spell was in the morning session, when getting the ball to swing both ways, the 29-year-old tested the technical competence of overnight batsmen Vishal Singh and Assad Fuddadin.

That spell, however, did not produce as much as his second, which began shortly after tea when again getting the second new ball to swing both ways, he picked up four wickets, including that of topscorer Singh, to maintain Jamaica's grip on the game.

This was after Guyana had threatened to wrestle the initiative in their favour on the following two solid top-order partnerships led by Singh.

The first was between the diminutive Singh and Fudadin, who put on 78 for the second wicket, while the second was a 57-run third wicket stand between Singh and Narsingh Deonarine, who took the score within touching distance of Jamaica's first innings lead of 177 runs at 154 for three.

The left-handed Singh, showing good technical application and temperament, hit four fours before he was caught low down by John Campbell at second slip in late afternoon off a Taylor bouncer on 73.

Deonarine, who was settling into a rhythm having hit two sixes and two fours, was next best with 38, while Fudadin made 33.

"Each and every time I go out on the park it is about giving the best of myself for my country and today I did just that," said Taylor.

"I must say thanks to my teammates and God as without them this would not be possible."

Captain Tamar Lambert, who utilised eight bowlers on the day as he sought, and succeeded in pegging back the visitors, is one of three bowlers, who has a wicket to their name in support of Taylor. The others are off-spinner Jamie Merchant and part-time leg-spinner, Nkrumah Bonner.
