Police on Tuesday seized an M16 while on patrol in the volatile east Kingston community of McIntyre Villa, more popularly known as Dunkirk.

Amid increased police presence, following a flair-up of violence last week, the high-powered rifle was found in an area of the community called Banana Street.

Reports from the police are that, about 1:30 p.m., a police team was on patrol when the illegal weapon was found, along with rounds of ammunition.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

The east Kingston police are investigating.
