Boys' 4x400 metres relay

This is another event that could certainly have spectators on the edge of their seats as fans expect a dogfight between the Javon Francis-led Calabar and the Martin Manley-led St Jago.

It will be the final event of the night and track-and-field fans could see something special. Six years ago a St Jago quartet, which included the likes of Yohan Blake, Nickeal Ashmeade and Riker Hylton posted a record of 3:08.32. The time will be under severe threat.

At the recent Camperdown Classics St Jago threw down the guantlett, easily winning the event in 3:10.40. The team could have gone faster, but World Youth 400 metres champion Manley just went through the motions on the anchor leg.

At the Ben Francis Invitational, both Ivan Henry and Nathon Allen underlined the strength of St Jago in the 400m, as both were easy in clocking sub-49-second times. Kadesh Willis is set to join the team and they look all set to run a fast time, starting favourites for the event.

Francis, one of the country's best anchor leg runner, based on what he did at the Penn Relays, the Carifta Games and the World Championships last year, will lead a strong Calabar team. The other likely members from the Calabar team should be Michael O'Hara, Jason Drake and Malcolm Campbell.

On paper, the St Jago team looks stronger team, but the big question is, can Francis, getting the baton behind much-improved Manley, overhaul him?
