Raymond Graham, STAR Writer
NO high school girls sprint relay quartet has ever gone sub-44 seconds in the 4x100 metres but come this Saturday this could all change as the Michael Dyke-coached Class One team looks set to create history inside the National Stadium at the 38th Gibson Relays. The fastest time ever recorded by a local school team is the 44.32 seconds a Vere Technical quartet, anchored by Simone Facey, clocked at the Penn Relays in 2004. Edwin Allen's current quartet of Christania Williams, Claudette Allen, Saqukine Cameron and Monique Spencer, despite running with little or no competition at the recent Milo Western Relays, crossed the line in a fast 44.53 seconds, blowing away second-place team Holmwood Technical who did 46.26. ready for competition Williams, who missed last year's season due to injury, is back to good form and she showed that she is ready for competition once again and gave them a flying start in their team's record win at Western Relays. At the Ben Francis Invitational meet , Spencer, Cameron and Allen dominated the Class One 200 metres where they had the top three spots and look set to carry their good form straight into the Gibson Relays. Dyke is confident that his team will break Holmwood's Gibson Relays record of 44.53 set in 2007. "I have never had a relay group running so fast and definitely the record will go but to go sub 44 seconds it depends on the level of competition we get on Saturday," said Dyke, Dyke may be very modest but once the stick goes around and with good changes his quartet is well on the way to becoming the fastest ever local high school girl relay team. Their only competition on Saturday will be the clock as Holmwood with a season best 46.26 and St Jago High with their 46.99 (at the Camperdown Classic) will both find a team out of their reach.
