Infected with HIV and chlamydia |
|||||
Dear Counsellor: I am HIV infected and recently found out I am also infected with chlamydia. What is the treatment for chlamydia? I am concerned because my husband and I are both HIV positive and I really don't know how long we have been infected with chlamydia, but I have always encouraged him about the need to have safer sex, because I am sure my husband has other women. I don't know what else to do and, because he is the only one working, and given my HIV situation, I cannot leave him. I wish there was something I could buy over the counter, I am so ashamed to be going to the doctor with chlamydia, given my HIV status. Concerned and Living with HIV Dear Concerned and Living with HIV: HIV positive persons with chlamydia should receive the same treatment/medication as the person who is HIV negative. You and your partner need to have more serious talks about safer sex options. If you continue to get infected with sexually transmitted infections, your health may begin to deteriorate. Having multiple infections increases your risk of serious reproductive health complications, including infertility and sterility. In the meantime, you must consult with your doctor and follow all instructions carefully. You may need to speak with a HIV- knowledgeable counsellor and, in the meantime, see if you can find a job create your own business so you can be more independent and empowered.
